Eat Your Protein!

Monday 1st of July 2013 08:53:52 PM

It's important to consume your recommended dietary intake (RDI) of protein each day.

The amount of protein you need in your diet depends on your weight, age and health

On average the RDI for protein (measured in grams per kilogram of bodyweight) is:

0.75 g/kg for adult women
0.84 g/kg for adult men

For example, a male weighing 82 kg should be consuming around 69 grams of protein per day.

Sources of Protein include -

Meat, poultry and fish
Cereal and cereal-based products (check packaging information)
Eggs
Dairy products
Seeds and nuts
Beans and lentils
Soy products
Grains

For those people who exercise/workout, there is a higher demand for protein than the RDI, however it should also be stated that you can only absorb around 40 grams of protein per sitting. Too much protein can damage the kidneys.

Protein is a great energy source, particularly for snacking. So ensure you are eating enough protein to keep you happy and healthy all day long.
